Revaler Killo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Revaler Killo ( Estonian Tallinna kilud ) is a fish specialty from the Estonian city of Tallinn (formerly Reval ).

It is made from the Killoströmling ( Clupea killo ), a small fish species that occurs locally near Reval and Paldiski . The fish is pickled in pepper and bay leaf . It is especially consumed as sakuska with vodka .

In 2012 the production of the last commercial manufacturer OÜ Papissaar was discontinued, which produced the Revaler Killo with four employees. The reasons for the cessation of production were given as the shortage of fish, high costs for the fish and increased costs for traditional tin-made fish tins.
