In the technical area, the revision status indicates a certain change status of a document , a component or a material . In a revision of the document, component or material of the revision level by a new number, a new character and / or the validity date of the change is marked .

For example, when developing a new component, the technical drawing is given revision level A. If the component is revised later, the accordingly changed drawing will be revision level B (valid from 01.09.201x). This ensures a clear assignment for traceability.

Typically, a notation similar to a software version is chosen, such as B. "Rev. 1.0.5 "or" Rev. B ".
