The Common Treasury's receptor is one of the four high offices of the Order of Malta and is assigned to a professed or obedient knight .

The Receptor is the Finance and Budget Minister of the Order and directs the financial administration and the Order's property in agreement with the Grand Chancellor under the supervision of the Grand Master and the control of the Accounts Chamber. He is responsible for the preparation of the annual budgets and final balance sheets, which show the economic and financial situation of the Order, and has to forward them to the Chamber of Accounts for assessment and to the Grand Master for approval after hearing the Sovereign Council.

After hearing the Sovereign Council, he submits to the Grand Master the acceptance of inheritances, legacies and gifts, the alienation of religious property and the reinvestment of the proceeds. He directs and supervises the postal service of the Grand Magisterium and, through a general secretariat, the internal administration of the houses of the Grand Magisterium, in particular the personnel office, the technical office and the security monitoring of the Grand Magisterium and other buildings. On the basis of the mandate of the Grand Master, the receptor also oversees the administration of the order organizations and the orders. Disposals and encumbrances that affect the property of the Grand Magisterium or the priories require the countersignature by the receptor.
