from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rheingold is a novel by the US author Stephan Grundy from 1992 .

With “Rheingold”, Stephan Grundy picks up on the subject matter of the Nibelungen and Wälsungen sagas , but extends the characters and narrative strands that have been adopted with his own perspective. Grundy, who is a studied philologist and did his doctorate on the Germanic god of war Wotan , sets the plot against the historical background of the Migration Period and tries to stay as close as possible to the findings of historical research.

The book, which Grundy dedicated to JRR Tolkien and Richard Wagner , among others , was an international success after its publication and was on the “ Spiegel ” bestseller list for several months . It was the first published novel by Grundy, who was quite young when it appeared at the age of 25, and has since published several other successful novels.
