from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rheinpreußen AG for mining and chemistry was a German company in the fields of mining and chemistry worked. It was founded by the Haniel family .

history

The mining law union Rheinpreußen was founded by his sons in 1868 under Franz Haniel . In 1857 the sinking of shaft 1 of the Rheinpreußen colliery began. The union initially consisted of 1,000 kuxes . Like Rhenish Prussia, the Neumühl union was founded in 1867 under the influence of Franz Haniel and from 1933 onwards it was run in personal union with Rhenish Prussia ; The Rhineland trade union, founded in 1926, also remained in the hands of the Haniel family. In 1951, Rheinpreußen changed from the Rheinpreußen union to the Rheinpreußen AG für Bergbau und Chemie , the connection to the union Rheinland und Neumühl (now Bergbau und Industrie AG Neumühl) remained. Between 1959 and 1965, Rhenish Prussia became a subsidiary of DEA (Deutsche Erdöl AG) , and with this came to the German Texaco AG in 1970 . In return, the Haniel family received DEA shares worth 56 million German marks (or 20 percent) for their 70 percent stake in Rhine Prussia and had to reduce their stake to 5 percent or 14 million marks through sale.

Gas stations

In addition to coal mining and chemical companies, Rheinpreußen AG also built several petrol stations to which it supplied itself. From 1936 onwards, it produced gasoline from coal ( coal liquefaction ), as fuel was scarce in National Socialist Germany. In the 1950s, for example, there were around 800 Rhine Prussia filling stations, and under the DEA in 1965 there were around 1200 filling stations. Rhenish Prussia accounted for around 3 percent of German fuel sales. After this time, the brand slowly disappeared.
