Rheinschanze (Koblenz)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rheinschanze was part of the Prussian fortress Koblenz and belonged to the system of Feste Kaiser Franz . The ski jump in what is now Koblenz 's Neuendorf district was laid out in 1821 in the east of the Kaiser Franz fortress .

After the abandonment in 1890, the hill was leveled and in 1910 used to build a car house. Since the development only made up a small part of the site, the City of Koblenz registered interest in the property in 1929. The date of takeover or the start of construction activities are not known. Today the area is built over, remains of the fortress are no longer present. A street name reminds of the approximate location of the jump.
