The Rheintor is on the banks of the Rhine situated Stadttorturm the fortification of Linz am Rhein .

In the 15th or 16th century, the westernmost of the Linz city ​​gates, consisting of basalt and slate rubble, was rebuilt as a successor to the gate originally built with the rest of the city fortifications between 1320 and 1329. Later it was rebuilt several times.

In contrast to the rest of the city fortifications, which were largely demolished in 1861, the gate at Burgplatz 1 is still there. As a cultural monument, it is under monument protection .
