The Rhizoplasmidae are a family of amoeboid protists from the Cercozoa tribe .
features
The representatives are large cells, usually 1 to 10 mm in size. They are naked protoplasms with a central mass surrounded by pronounced branched and networked reticulopodia . The reticulopodia are granular. They are mostly single cells, but can also fuse to form meroplasmodia .
Systematics
The rhizoplasmids are placed in an unsafe position in the class Proteomyxidea within the Cercozoa .
The following genera are used by Bass et al. counted as part of the family:
Some representatives, such as Reticulomyxa, could turn out to be naked foraminifera , but molecular genetic studies are still pending.
