Ribotyping

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In molecular biology, ribotyping ( trunk word for ribosomal typing ) is a method for generating a genetic fingerprint of rDNA by means of restriction fragment length polymorphism .

principle

Characteristic restriction patterns of the DNA of genes of the ribosomal RNA (rRNA) are generated by ribotyping. The isolated DNA is broken down with a restriction enzyme , after agarose gel electrophoresis and a Southern blot with hybridization probes from parts of the 16S rRNA and 23 S rRNA genes, a pattern characteristic of the species can be generated and compared with samples from other species.
