Ricardo Semler

Ricardo Semler (* 1959 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian entrepreneur. He is the managing director and majority owner of Semco S / A, a Brazilian company that has become known for its radical democratization .

Under Semler's direction, sales rose from $ 4 million in 1982 to $ 212 million in 2003 (an increase of 21% p.a.). The number of employees rose from 90 to 3000. Semler's management methods have met with great interest worldwide.

In 1990 the Wall Street Journal named Ricardo Semler Latin American Businessman of the Year, and in 1990 and 1992 he was also named Brazilian Businessman of the Year.

Semler was Vice President of the Federation of Industries of Brazil and on the board of SOS Atlantic Forest, Brazil's most important environmental protection organization. In 2003 he founded the first democratic school in Brazil, the Lumiar School .

Ricardo Semler's first book Virando a própria mesa (Engl .: Maverick ) became the best-selling non-fiction book in the history of Brazil and has been translated into 23 languages. It describes his management model and was first published in German in 1993 under the title “ Das Semco System ”.
