Richard Bussmann

Richard Bussmann is a German Egyptologist .

Life

Bussmann studied Egyptology, Ancient Near Eastern Studies and Theology at the University of Heidelberg , FU and HU Berlin from 1995 to 2002 . He completed his Magister Artium in 2002 at the Free University of Berlin . From 2004 to 2006 he was a doctoral student at the Graduate School Images of Gods - Images of God - Images of the World. Polytheism and Monotheism in Antiquity at the University of Göttingen . After his doctorate in Egyptology in 2007 at the Free University of Berlin with the dissertation The Provincial Temples of Egypt from the 0th to the 11th Dynasty: Archeology and History of a Social Institution between Residence and Province , he was a lecturer there from 2007 to 2010 ( research assistant ). As a postdoctoral fellow at the Humboldt Foundation , he conducted research at Cambridge University in 2010 . From 2010 to 2016 he taught as a lecturer in Egyptology and Egyptian archeology at University College London . Since 2016 he has been teaching as professor for Egyptology at the University of Cologne .

His research interests are social archeology , cultural anthropology , complex societies and archaic states , urbanism in Northeast Africa, archeology of religion and provincial Egypt in the Bronze Age .

In 2019 Richard Bussmann was elected Secretary General of the International Association of Egyptologists .
