Richard Rosser, Baron Rosser

Richard Andrew Rosser, Baron Rosser (born October 5, 1944 ) is a former British trade union leader and politician.

He originally worked for London Transport and then became a union clerk with the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association (TSSA) . where he represented London Transport employees in negotiations with management. He rose up the union hierarchy and was soon elected one of the two deputy general secretaries and in 1989 general secretary of the union. Rosser was re-elected twice, serving a total of 15 years until he retired in 2004. This tenure was only surpassed by Alexander Walkden , who was in office from 1906 to 1936. He was also an arbitrator and chairman of the Labor Party's National Executive Committee .

After his retirement he was named a Life Peer as Baron Rosser , of Ickenham in the London Borough of Hillingdon . Since then he has sat for Labor in the House of Lords . In addition to transportation, his fields of activity are criminal justice; He was chairman of the Prison Service Audit Committee and served on the board of the Prison Service change program board .
