Riikka Pulkkinen (born July 8, 1980 in Tampere ) is a Finnish writer. She was best known for the international bestseller success of her second novel, Wahr (orig. Totta , 2010), which was also nominated for the highest Finnish literary prize.

Live and act

Pulkkinen studied literature and philosophy at the University of Helsinki . Her debut novel Raja (= The Border), published in Helsinki in 2006 , received a lot of attention in Finland. The themes of the novel are euthanasia and forbidden relationships.

The second novel, Totta, confirmed the good reviews by being nominated for the Finlandia Prize and receiving considerable public attention. There are already numerous translations, including an English, Dutch and German edition. At the center of the plot is a grandmother suffering from cancer who, as a career woman, only takes a closer look at the dynamics of her family relationships through the challenge of the disease and then acts accordingly.

The film rights for Totta were given to the Finnish production company Vertigo Production. In November 2011 there was the world premiere of a version of the drama in the KOM Theater in Helsinki.

Pulkkinen lives in Helsinki.
