The Rillenstein von Tarmstedt is a prehistoric Rillenstein and menhir in Tarmstedt in the district of Rotenburg (Wümme) , Lower Saxony .

location

The stone was found in a field south of Tarmstedt. He was lying on a rolling stone pavement. Not far from the site there is a group of burial mounds . Today the stone is placed in front of the local history museum Tarmstedt at Bremer Landstrasse 18.

description

The stone is irregular, almost pyramidal in shape and strongly rounded. It is made of red granite and has a height of 0.79 m, a width of 0.85 m and a thickness of 0.56 m. On one side there is a crescent-shaped groove 8 cm wide and deep, through which the upper end of the side is almost circular. A piece to the right of the center of the sickle-shaped groove goes down another, L-shaped groove. It may be natural and has just been post-processed. According to Detlef Schünemann , the stone is an anthropomorphic representation with a stylized head and perhaps an angled arm.
