history

Rimi Baltic was founded in 2004. At that time, the Finnish retail conglomerate Kesko and the Swedish ICA group decided to merge their activities in the Baltic states into a 50:50 joint venture . Rimi Baltic officially started its activities on January 1st, 2005. Previously, Kesko had six city hypermarkets and 45 discount grocery stores in Estonia, as well as five city markets and 19 supernetto outlets in Latvia. ICA previously owned 33 Rimi stores (supermarkets and hypermarkets) in Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. In 2005 all city stores were gradually converted to Rimi hypermarkets.

At the end of 2006 Kesko withdrew from the joint venture and on January 1, 2007 Rimi Baltic became a wholly-owned subsidiary of ICA AB.
