Rimmel is a British cosmetics company , which in 1820 by French perfumer Gerard Rimmel in London was founded.

Company history

The cosmetics company Rimmel was founded in 1820 by the French born Gérard Rimmel and his 14-year-old son and apprentice Eugène Rimmel . The headquarters of the perfumery at that time was on posh Bond Street . Eugène expanded the store further and created the world-famous Book of Perfume , in which, at the time, a novelty, he meticulously documented various fragrances and their production in words and pictures. He also broke new ground in advertising and placed advertisements in theater programs and put together elaborate catalogs in order to win over the wealthy high society as customers. After Eugène's death in 1887, his two sons continued their father's strategy and expanded the company internationally. One focus of her product line was eye make-up, especially mascara . The upcoming film and the associated dramatic make-up of the movie stars further boosted the popularity of the company and its products. The owners of a London advertising agency, Robert and Rose Caplin, bought the company and expanded it.

In the 1970s and 1980s the company was sold to various owners, the current owner is Coty Inc. , which Rimmel acquired in 1996. The company began to create the London look as a special strategy and won the supermodel Kate Moss as the representative face of the brand.
