The ring fort Lios-na-gCon (also called Lisnagun , Irish Lios na gCon - dt. Ring fort of the hunting dog) in Darrara, near Clonakilty , in West Cork , Ireland was reconstructed in its original place between 1987 and 1989. Lios-na-gCon is located on a gentle slope on the grounds of the Teagasc - Clonakilty College agricultural school. It is one of three circular earth walls in Darrara and one of 48 registered in the Clonakilty area and possibly also ring forts .

The aim of the project was to rebuild for educational purposes and to promote the preservation of other archaeological sites among young landowners. Ring forts were used between about AD 400 and 1200. They belong to a group with duns and crannógs built by Irish Celts . These places were centers of the economy of agriculture and livestock and the production of tools, textiles and household goods. About 35,000 ring forts have been identified in the Irish countryside.

The ring fort was reasonably well preserved. Wall and moat were partially well preserved. According to local belief, there should be at least one basement , the location of which was not known, in the ring fort. The archaeological investigation showed that the earth walls formed an enclosure. The original access was an earth dam in the southeast, which led to the gravel-paved inner area, which was dominated by a round main wooden house. Several small extensions and stables stood on the inner stone wall of the wall. This wall makes it an intermediate piece between a stone dun and an earthen rath , as the Irish names for these round fort types are. There were three (earth-cut) basements in the ground.

The finds consist of iron slag and broken tools, millstones , a blue glass bead , bones and hammer stones . Evidence of economic activity is charred remains of the bones of sheep, pigs and red deer, as well as flax and hazelnuts from grain .
