The House of Nobility Society Bubikon (RHG) is an association founded on December 5, 1936 Association of Art. 60ff. of the Swiss Civil Code with seat in the municipality of Bubikon . The purpose of the association is the preservation of the former Johanniterkommende Bubikon and the operation of a museum on the history of the Coming and the Knight Orders.

history

After the Johanniterkommende Bubikon was abolished in 1789, the buildings of the former Kommende changed hands several times. In the 1930s, three parties shared the buildings, most of which were used as apartments and some as storage or utility rooms for agriculture. In the course of the enthusiasm for castles and the Heimat movement, interested groups in the community of Bubikon and the monument preservation department of the Canton of Zurich began to get involved in the preservation of the buildings.

In 1936, open-air performances under the title Kreuzritterspiel von Bubikon by Jakob Hauser were carried out in the courtyard of the building complex then known as the "monastery" . The Bubiker community president, cantonal councilor and industrialist Paul Hotz was elected as the founding president. The company managed to come to an agreement with two of the three owners as early as 1938 and purchase most of the buildings except for the so-called "Neuhaus" for around CHF 110,000. In the following years up to 1947, the RHG converted the entire building complex in several stages with financial support from the federal government, cantons and municipality as well as numerous local companies and private individuals, so that the original condition of the future could be restored according to the possibilities and ideas of the time. During the renovations, it became apparent that large parts of the original structure were still intact, as the private owners had refrained from major structural changes.

In 1939, the Ritterhausgesellschaft decided to set up a museum on the history of the knightly orders in the house, after other uses had also been considered. In 1958/1959, the purchase of a shed in the courtyard of the knight's house was also successful, so that in a final construction phase the house was essentially given its shape, which has been preserved to this day.

Between 1993 and 1995 the chapel was professionally restored. A complete redesign of the museum was completed in 1999. In the same year the company also got a new logo. In 2004 the long-time president, patron and industrialist Rudolf Frey left his collection items exhibited in the museum and a generous financial donation to the Ritterhausgesellschaft. Since 2009, the facade of all buildings has been renovated in stages with the support of the Canton of Zurich. In addition to running the museum, the RHG organizes additional exhibitions and events for a wide audience. The establishment of a local museum in the so-called "Sennhaus" by the municipality of Bubikon failed in a referendum in 2009.

The Ritterhausgesellschaft has been publishing the annual journal of the Ritterhausgesellschaft Bubikon since 1938 and maintains a library with a focus on the history of the knight orders in Switzerland.
