Robert D. Pritchard (born January 21, 1945 in San Diego , USA ) is an American business psychologist and university professor.

Life

Robert D. Pritchard received his bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1966. In 1969 he received his doctorate in industrial and organizational psychology as well as statistics and methodology from the University of Minnesota. Between 1977 and 2003, Pritchard taught and worked at various universities, including the University of Houston and Texas A&M University . He is a member of various organizations including the American Psychology Association, the Society for Organizational Behavior, and the American Psychological Society. Since 2003 he has been Professor of Psychology and Management at the University of Central Florida .

Research interests

His main areas of research include increasing performance and motivation in organizations, organizational development, feedback, work ethic and research strategies. Together with Naylor and Ilgen, Pritchard developed a motivation theory that is still used today through management systems such as ProMES or questionnaires such as the Motivation Assessment System . The theory makes the assumption that motivation and performance in organizations are maximized when there is a clear connection between the energy used for an action and the needs to be satisfied with it.
