Robert J. Whittaker

Robert James Whittaker is a British ecologist and professor of biogeography at the School of Geography and the Environment of Oxford University .

Live and act

In 1980 he did his B.Sc. at the University of Hull , 1982 M.Sc. at the University College of North Wales and finally received his doctorate in 1985 from University College Cardiff , later Cardiff University . His dissertation was entitled Plant community and plant population studies of a successional sequence: Storbreen glacier foreland, Jotunheimen, Norway .

Whittaker co-founded the International Biogeographic Society and was its president from 2009 to 2010. Since 2004 he has been editor of the Journal of Biogeography .
