Robert Richter (director)

Robert Richter (* 1929 in New York City ) is an American director, screenwriter and producer in the field of documentary films .

Life

Richter received a bachelor's degree from Reed College . He then studied writing at the University of Iowa . He worked in various positions for Oregon public television, from the mid-1960s he was involved in the CBS Report series. This was followed by more than 30 own documentaries for film and television from 1968 as an independent producer and director. Thematically, he covers a wide range of areas with his productions, from the environment and rainforest , to politics and biographies, to portraits of individual countries.

In 1983 and 1995 he was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Documentary Short Film. In 2008 he received an Emmy Award for his work on White Light / Black Rain: The Destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki . In 1989 and 2010 he received the IDA Award from the International Documentary Association .
