Robert Seton, 1st Earl of Winton

Robert Seton, 1st Earl of Winton ( 1552 - March 22, 1603 ) was a Scottish peer .

He was the son of George Seton, 5th Lord Seton (1531–1586) and Isabel Hamilton (around 1529–1604). He was a Catholic and a follower of Queen Maria Stuart and King James VI. In 1585 at the latest he was appointed as Privy Counselor to the Scottish Privy Council. When his father died in 1586, he inherited his title as 6th Lord Seton . On November 16, 1600 he was also given the hereditary title Earl of Winton .

He died on March 22, 1603 and was buried on April 5, 1603.

Marriage and offspring

In 1582 he married Lady Margaret Montgomerie († 1624), daughter of Hugh Montgomerie, 3rd Earl of Eglinton . He had six children with her:
