Robert and Trebor is a children's book by Paul Maar from 1985.

action

The book tells about the boy Robert, whose family has moved to a new town and who has not yet found a connection.

In his boredom, Robert discovers a jungle and eyes in the wallpaper pattern of his new children's room. He paints the eyes on the wallpaper and notices that his silhouette emerges from the wallpaper. It is a boy who is totally similar to him and who goes by the name Trebor (Robert read backwards).

The two decide to swap. Trebor is now doing Robert's homework and Robert is going for a walk in the jungle behind the wallpaper.

At school Robert is humiliated by the class bully Frank and he can't understand why the nice Simone is friends with the stupid Frank. At home, Robert plays with Trebor and creates a mess in his room. But then he also realizes that his mother cannot see Trebor at all.

The next day Robert is harassed by Frank again and when Simone tries to help him, Frank takes the silk scarf away from her. Robert manages to take Simone's silk scarf and runs home with it. But instead of the expected thanks, she rings angrily at him and scolds him for taking off her scarf. It's not easy to convince her that he wanted to give it back the next day.

Simone now also makes it clear to him that Frank is not her boyfriend, but that she only lives in the same house and therefore goes to school with him. Simone visits Robert at home, they talk about his friend Trebor, and Robert erases his eyes on the wallpaper.
