Skirt rounder

The skirt rounder is a tool in sewing . It is used to mark a hem edge on skirts, dresses, coats, etc., which should be evenly spaced from the floor. The wearer or a tailor's bust is placed next to the skirt rounder and the skirt rounder is moved around the object to be chalked off. Professional skirt rounders have roller feet for this. Care should be taken to ensure that the person adopts a normal posture, that they do not stand upright. If in doubt, the skirt part of a piece of clothing should be longer at the back, as it shortens there again when walking.

The most commonly used type of skirt rounder consists of a vertical rod that is attached to a stand. A slidable atomizer can with chalk powder is attached to it. The chalk powder can be blown onto the fabric through a slit-shaped outlet with the help of a bubble ball. The spray can of the Rockabrunders is infinitely adjustable.

Another construction uses a folding mechanism instead of a chalk blower, with the help of which the length is very precisely marked with pins. Due to the shortness of the folding device, the height up to which it can be staked is significantly lower than the likewise limited height of the chalk rounder. There is a pin cushion on the foot .

The Fadomat , a commercially used, more elaborate skirt rounder marks the length with thread loops.

Instead of a skirt rounder, a ruler or a simple stick can be used. In this case, the even length is marked with pins or tailor's chalk. If the hem has already been folded over or re-stitched for trying on because of the better assessment of the planned length, any length above the hem is chalked off or staked. During further processing, the length is compensated or changed from here by measuring down.
