from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rockaroas is a tradition in Bavaria and Upper Austria .

History and meaning of words

Rockaroas used to mean the common sitting of the maids and single girls on winter evenings. Here, spinning was done alternately in the rooms of the different houses together on the spinning wheels. People sang songs and told old stories, gossiped and gossiped.

The rock (distaff) denotes the rod around which the flax fibers are wrapped, the "roas" (the journey) indicates that one sat at the spinning wheels differently every evening, i.e. "traveled" from house to house .

present

Of course, the Rockaroas no longer spun, it is a social event in the country and often serves charitable purposes through income from entrance fees, donations, etc. As an event in a single evening, the term "Roas" is actually no longer correct. Since music and dance are increasingly a part of this today, rock dance is also often spoken of.
