Rodrigo Ratier (born May 21, 1969 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine composer, pianist, arranger and conductor who has devoted himself above all to Tango Nuevo , jazz, popular Latin American and contemporary music.

Life

He took his first piano lessons at the age of six. From 1981 his musical training continued under Roberto Lara (guitar), Haydée Schvartz (piano) and Ani Grunwald (music theory). At the same time he studied at the Manuel de Falla Municipal Conservatory and the Beethoven Conservatory of Buenos Aires. He first studied the classical guitar and piano repertoire and also dealt with composition. 1984 wrote the first pieces, the result of his engagement with the Argentine folk music and the Tango Argentino , as well as the fusion of these musical genres with jazz and classical music.

Artistic career

Since 1985 he has worked as a composer, pianist, arranger and conductor. In Argentina he founded the music groups Los Rodrigo Ratier Trío (1986), Vallegrande (1987), Atuel (1991) and La Puerta del Vino (1994), with whom he played on the most important musical stages in Buenos Aires and other cities in Argentina. In 1997 he went to Santiago ( Chile ). There he founded the Terzett Sur (Latin American jazz fusion ) and since 2006 has led the group Rodrigo Ratier Quinteto , which specializes in ( tango - jazz ). Between 2004 and 2010 he took part in a project led by the Chilean singer and composer Cristina Gálvez . Occasionally he engages as sidemen stars of Chilean jazz such as Mickey Mardones , Rita Góngora , Fernando Verdugo , etc. In 2017 he composes Cuatro viñetas tangueras ("Four Tango Vignettes"), a tango concerto for viola and string orchestra that of the Russian , in Switzerland based violist Hana-Maria Gubenko , and its world premiere on August 20, 2018 in the presence of the composer in the campus Aula PMS Kreuzlingen (Switzerland) with Hana-Maria Gubenko as soloist and the Orchester de Chambre de Toulouse under the baton by the Swiss composer and conductor Gilles Collard took place. His compositions combine elements of Argentinian and Latin American folk music, tango and Uruguayan candombe , fusion, jazz and world music .
