Roger Leenhardt Films , a film production company, was founded in 1934 under the name Les Films du Compas by the French writer and filmmaker Roger Leenhardt (1903–1985) together with René Zuber and later renamed Roger Leenhardt Films .

Leenhardt was fascinated by the cinema from an early age. When he was working with a cousin for the weekly news program Éclair Journal , he had the idea of ​​founding his own production company, which he named Les Films du Compas . Another film production company was founded a little later under the name Roger Leenhardt Films . Both companies ran in parallel before Leenhardt decided at a later date to subordinate Les Films du Compas to his production company Roger Leenhardt Films and to continue running under this name. He produced more than 60 short films, mainly portraits of great writers such as Honoré de Balzac , François Mauriac , Paul Valéry , Victor Hugo etc., and portraits of famous painters such as Claude Monet , Camille Pissarro , Frédéric Bazille etc. ., dedicated.

In 1964, Leenhardt also produced a film about the origins of photography, an intelligent masterpiece of education, entitled Daguerre ou la Naissance de la Photographie . Since Leenhardt wanted to pursue artistic visions with his production company, he only produced three feature films: Les Dernières Vacances (1948), Le Rendez-vous de minuit (1962) and for television Une fille dans la montagne (1964).

Award

Roger Leenhardt was nominated for an Oscar at the Academy Awards 1952 with his short film Balzac with his production company Les Film du Compas in the category “Best Short Film” (two film roles) , which went to Walt Disney and his film Earth, the Great Unknown .
