Pipe bending software

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tube bending software is software that helps to shape tubes by calculating bending data and virtually testing a bend for feasibility. By using pipe bending software, very precise components can be created.

Involvement in the forming process

Tube bending software is used in the run-up to the actual bend and represents the interface between planning, measurement and the actual bending process of a pipe by a pipe bending machine. The software creates a virtual component that corresponds to the later formed pipe and enables the bend to be tested, before it actually takes place. To implement the bending process, certain data (bending angle, length dimensions, rotation data) must be calculated and transferred to the bending machine. The starting point for this is the isometry of the pipe, which can be obtained in three ways:

  • A drawing of the component that is not to scale is provided with the desired dimensions and lengths.
  • The CAD data or measurement data of a component are imported. The isometric data is then filtered from this geometry data.
  • The isometric drawing is generated by entering XYZ data. To do this, the start and end point as well as the intersection point coordinates of all bends must be entered.

If the isometry is known, the pipe bending software can use this to calculate the relevant bending data, such as bending angle, feed and rotation of the workpiece and the cut length for the starting pipe, taking into account the material properties (springback and stretching behavior). Then all important setting values of the bending machine can be communicated so that the pipe figure can be bent precisely.

advantages

The use of tube bending software, in particular the use of forming simulations, makes it possible to make very precise predictions about the feasibility of certain bends by recognizing possible errors and limit values of parameters using virtual tests. By comparing simulated variants of the pipe to be bent, suggestions for changes by the bending transducer and simulation operators can be implemented more easily and the entire pipe bending process can be carried out at reduced costs and within a shorter time.
