Pipe measurement technology

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pipe measuring technology refers to the recording of pipe , line and wire geometries through the use of technical aids, so-called pipe measuring systems. The measured data (lengths, bending angles, pipe run, diameter, etc.) can be compared with the data from electronically designed sample pipes to assess the component quality. Either the complete pipe run is measured or an approximate determination of the pipe run is carried out via the intersection of the vectors of the bending line (neutral fiber).

Pipe measuring systems

Instruments for the geometrical measurement of a pipe (especially for determining the pipe run) are called pipe measuring systems. The most important tools are pipe measuring arms , measuring cells and mechanical gauges .

Pipe measuring arms

Pipe measuring arms are hand-held devices with articulated arms, at the movable end of which there is a sensor. To measure the course of the pipe (bending line, neutral fiber), they are alternatively equipped with tactile sensors, an infrared measuring fork or a laser scanner. The measured points or curves can be displayed and evaluated using special measuring and evaluation software.

Pipe measuring cells

In contrast to pipe measuring arms, pipe measuring cells always carry out an optical component measurement. The measuring cells are devices that are equipped with light sources and digital cameras . Depending on the selected method (see also: photogrammetry ), either the component images or the shadow images of the component are evaluated by appropriate measurement software and the course of the bending line (neutral fiber) is determined in turn.

Mechanical gauges

Gauges are not an instrument for measuring pipes in the actual sense, but are only used to assess the component quality in the context of quality control ( production metrology ). Important reference points or sections of the pipe are mapped in a negative form or on a base plate, taking into account the specified tolerance. If the formed tube can now be inserted into this gauge without forcing, the workpiece is regarded as a good part.

advantages

The use of pipe measuring technology or pipe measuring systems delivers faster and more precise results than manual measurement. Modern CNC tube bending machines that are used in the context of tube prefabrication can nowadays be linked to the tube measuring technology via a corresponding interface in your tube bending software . In this way, the measurement results can be used directly for any necessary adjustments to the bending process (quality assurance during production).
