Roland Albert Toutain (born October 18, 1905 in Paris , † October 16, 1977 in Argenteuil ) was a French actor and stuntman.

life and career

Roland Toutain was the son of a cattle farmer and played as an actor in a total of 55 French films between 1924 and 1957. In many of these works, Toutain embodied youthful, naive heroic characters, both as the main actor and in supporting roles. He was seen in Liliom (1934), Fritz Lang's only French film , among others. He achieved lasting fame mainly through the role of the tragic pilot André Jurieux in Jean Renoir's classic film The Rules of the Game from 1939. Toutain was also a pilot in real life. He was also employed as a stuntman in many films and worked as a songwriter .

The actor was married three times, all marriages ended in divorce. He had an illegitimate son, the comedian Jacques Maire (1934-2003), whose paternity he never officially recognized. Roland Toutain died in Argenteuil two days before his 72nd birthday. The funeral was organized by his close friend Jean Marais .
