Roller seam welder

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The seam welding machine is a semi- or fully automatic welding machine for welding of metal sheets .

It is mainly used in large-scale industrial production where weld seams are used. It cannot make welds that have tight curves .

The upper and lower electrodes are designed as (narrow) rolls ( copper or copper alloy). One or both rollers are driven by a motor and pressed together with a defined force. The two sheets to be joined are inserted between the rollers. The roller drive slowly moves the sheets. The welding control sends impulses or continuous current to the rollers (electrodes). This process creates a continuous or partially interrupted (rolling) seam. Process-influencing variables are feed rate, electrode pressure, current strength and time grid.

As a special design, there are devices that have only one electrode roller; these are required to weld together a bent sheet metal part.
