Scooter boat

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The scooter boat was a shaft-driven boat designed by the inventor Peter Beckmann. It was one of the world's first boats of its kind.

details

In 1898 Beckmann built a boat from a beam frame with a hollow cylinder built into it that was perpendicular to the direction of travel and which also served as a cabin. Around the approximately three meters in diameter and 3.50 meters long cylinder was a pair of vane rings, which converted some of the kinetic energy of the orbital movement of the surrounding water into a forward movement of the boat. The vehicle reached a speed of up to 10 km / h on a drive with its inventor and his son from Ben Harbor in Maine towards the lake. However, due to the excessive wind drift , the scooter boat had to be brought to New York by a freighter.
