Rollkur (technique)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In its technical meaning, Rollkur describes a repair or upgrading method for series of technical devices in which certain parts of this technical device are removed, repaired and re-installed in a similar but not the same device in a rolling series.

For example, the DB series 101 of Deutsche Bahn received revised traction motors in the late 1990s as part of a roll cure. For this, some traction motors were rebuilt and installed in the first locomotive. The freed traction motors were upgraded according to a uniform scheme and were then installed in the second locomotive. Their traction motors were also processed and exchanged immediately for upgrading until the entire vehicle series had received the revised traction motors.

This method allows efficient production while ensuring a low level of damage in the technical devices to be upgraded.
