Roma wheel

The Roma wheel (also known as the birth wheel ) is a special birthing chair that is used in obstetrics . It consists of a stool floating in a wheel, which gives a feeling of weightlessness. The pregnant woman sits down in the stool to give birth, the legs are fastened in a spread position, the hands are placed on the wheel-like holder. The wheel can be brought into several positions and thus enables birth from a half-way lying to a more or less upright position with supervision and assistance.
The Roma wheel was invented in the 1990s by Paul Degen from Liestal , who had to remain motionless in bed for several weeks after a back operation. So far, Roma bikes have mainly been offered in Swiss hospitals. The Frauenfeld Cantonal Hospital is currently working on a study on childbirth in a Roma bike.
