Rosenspitz from Solnhofen limestone

Rosenspitz , also known as the Rosenspitz motif , is a pattern made from square and diamond-shaped hexagonal floor tiles . The pattern is repeated continuously in the floor covering and is traditionally made of natural stone .

layout

The pattern consists of a square plate, which is framed by four so-called boats . The boats are named after their shape. They are hexagonal, elongated and they abut at the two narrow ends with a joint. Shuttles can be constructed of different widths. Narrow shuttles emphasize the square plate and wide the floor area. The square base plate and the shuttle can be designed with different colored natural stone.

Manufacturing

The rose lace pattern is traditional and was mainly made with natural stone slabs that were edged by hand. Historically, the sample panels were primarily made from Solnhofen limestone . The laying pattern can be found in Germany, especially in southern Germany, in historical church buildings. Today the rose pointed shapes are made from natural stone with stone circular saws . More recently, the laying pattern has also been used for terracotta and tiles .
