Rossdhu House is a manor house near the Scottish village of Luss . It sits on a headland on the shores of Loch Lomond and forms the center of the Rossdhu House estate. These extend to the A82 , which connects Glasgow to Inverness via Fort William . In 1971 Rossdhu House was included in the Scottish Monument Lists in the highest category A. Various outbuildings can be found on the grounds of Rossdhu House, some of which are also listed buildings. The archway that marks the entrance is the only one of these structures also classified in category A.

history

The building was commissioned by James Colquhoun, 2nd Baronet , whose family had owned the land since the 14th century. The planning of the building was done by James Baxter , with James Clerk, 3rd Baronet , possibly also partly involved. After two years of construction, Rossdhu House was finally completed in 1774. It then functioned as the headquarters of the Colquhouns. Substantial extensions were added in 1817. Rossdhu House was inhabited until the 1990s and was then leased as a club house to the local golf club, which was also responsible for renovation and repair work but also added extensions.
