Red cheeks

Rotbäckchen is the brand name of a fruit juice designed for children that was developed by Walther and Günther Lauffs.

History of the brand

The brand has existed since 1952 and belongs to the Haus Rabenhorst company in Unkel am Rhein. In the early post-war period, it was believed that many children were iron deficient. The juice was also advertised with the statement that it stimulates the appetite . The Rotbäckchen brand was an independent brand until the 1970s, then ran under the Rabenhorst brand for a few years and has been run as an independent brand again since 2006.

In December 2015, the Federal Court of Justice decided in a final appeal procedure that the application of the product with the term “Lernstark” in connection with the statement “With iron to support the ability to concentrate” is permissible. The Federation of German Consumer Organizations had sued against this .

Distribution and variants

For a long time Rotbäckchen was only available in health food stores and pharmacies , but since 2007 it has also been sold in health food stores and some drug stores and supermarkets. In addition to the original variant, which consists of grape , apple , blackberry , orange , cherry , acerola , one percent honey and iron, there have also been other red-cheek juices since 2007 . Since 2009 there has also been a Rotbäckchen organic spritzer made from seven not-from-concentrate juices and mineral water .
