The species of fish from the Lutjanidae family that are more or less red in color are called red snapper . In Germany, however, only the Malabar snapper ( Lutjanus malabaricus ) may be marketed under the name “Roter Schnapper” or “Red Snapper”, while in America “Red Snapper” means Lutjanus campechanus and “Southern red snapper” Lutjanus purpureus .
