Red pen function
The red pen function or redlining function ( English to redline - correcting drawings and documents) describes in the electronic processing of drawings and electronic documents the possibility of providing them with change notes and comments for the creator without changing the original file. This allows for the cooperation of different to a production process participants.
Word processing
Microsoft supports annotations with the Word program , with the help of which the correction and collaboration of different authors on a document is simplified. It is possible to view different versions of a paragraph and to display comments on them.
Computer-aided design (CAD)
In the process of creating and maintaining CAD drawings, these are first created with a CAD drawing program. The drawings are then read and checked with CAD viewer programs, with which no changes to the original drawing are possible. The red pen function of the viewer then enables the entry of change notes and comments for the drawing revision by simple, intuitive freehand drawing with the mouse or by entering text.
The technical foundation for the commenting technology is a powerful viewer that enables the import of numerous file formats. Without changing the original document, the drawing is carried out as if on a slide overlying the original. Original and inserts can then be saved in a new document.
