Günter Zabel

Günter Zabel (born December 11, 1926 in Weißenfels ; † August 12, 2020 in Michelstadt ) was a German educator and politician ( SPD ).

Life

After attending secondary school, Zabel completed a course of study at the universities of education in Halle and Weilburg . In 1953 he moved to West Germany . He later entered the school service, worked as a teacher in Kailbach from 1957 to 1974 and then became rector of a primary school in Erbach . Zabel was a member of the Masonic lodge To the three stars in the Odenwald in Michelstadt.

Political party

On April 20, 1944, Zabel was accepted into the NSDAP at the age of seventeen .

Zabel was a member of the SPD since 1962, since 1990 honorary chairman of the SPD Odenwaldkreis, since 1993 an honorary member of the SPD district Weissenfels

MP

Zabel had been a member of the district council of the Odenwaldkreis since 1964 . In 1968 he was elected chairman of the SPD district parliamentary group and in 1977 district chairman.

He was a member of the Hessian state parliament from 1974 to 1991, where he was deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group from 1980 to 1987 and chairman of the budget committee from 1984 to 1990. From 1994 to 2002 he was chairman of the Association of Former Members of the State of Hesse, and since 2002 honorary chairman of the association.
