Rottneros Park
Rottneros Park is a flower and sculpture park in the village of Rottneros in the municipality of Sunne in the province of Värmland County in Sweden.
history
The park was built from 1932 by Svante Påhlson, the miller in Rottneros, around the then existing manor house in which he lived. He made sure that - as in other classic parks - the two axes (north-south and east-west axis) that intersect on the square of the manor house are preserved. There was no “master plan”. Gradually, sculptures by various artists were added.
Today's mansion in the park corresponds to the Ekeby from the story Gösta Berling by the Swedish writer Selma Lagerlöf . Svante Påhlson designed a villa in the mid-1950s that could look like Ekeby . The park was redesigned: the central areas in the south of the manor house were initially laid out in the form of a formal park with baroque elements. This was followed by some other parts that were more similar in style to the English country parks. The middle parts are somewhat more formal, but not as strictly structured as the southern baroque part.
Owner and operator
The park belongs to the Greta and Svante Påhlson Memorial Foundation (as of August 2019). It is run by Rottneros Park Trädgård AB, a company owned by the municipality.
