Sunne is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Värmlands län and the historic province of Värmland . The main town of the municipality is Sunne .

Since 1984, the municipality has awarded the Selma-Lagerlöf Prize, endowed with 100,000 Swedish kronor, to authors who write in the tradition of Selma Lagerlöf .

Mårbacka

On the estate Mårbacka today Mårbacka Minnesgård , the writer and lived Nobel Prize winner Selma Lagerlof . The estate was left in the same condition as it was during the writer's lifetime. Sundbergs Gård ( Björne ), Tossebergsklätten ( Gurlita Klätt ) or Östra Ämterviks kyrka ( Svartsjö ) are other settings associated with Lagerlöf's novel “ Gösta Berling ” ( Gösta Berlings saga ).

Rottneros Park

The Ekeby from “Gösta Berling” is now one of the most beautiful flower and sculpture parks. The sculptures are works by Scandinavian artists of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Personalities

Selma Lagerlöf (1858–1940), Swedish writer, was born in the municipality of Mårbacka and spent most of her life there.
