Blush (cosmetics)
Rouge [ ruːʒ ] (from French rouge 'red') is a cosmetic product that is used to change the color of the face ( complexion ) so that the cheeks appear redder, and thus more youthful and “healthier”. It often consists of a talc-like powder with a red dye added to it.
The color used is the safflower content, a solution of carmine in ammonia and rose water scented with rose oil or a mixture of carmine or safflower red with talc . Schnouda, a colorless mixture of alloxan ( prepared from uric acid ) with cold cream , which colors the skin red , is also a useful rouge .
It is applied with a blush brush. The roughening of the cheeks dates back to the time of Louis XVI. When an elegant paleness was still considered a noble feature, but variety was also part of the fashion. A little red was dabbed on the previously powdered white faces.
Rouge is stored in small, flat cans the size of a palm.
Nowadays, one can find not only rouge for tinting the cheeks , but also other shades such as blue, purple, rosé, terracotta.
