Roy Berocay

Roy Berocay (* 1955 in Montevideo , Uruguay ) is a Uruguayan writer and children's book author .

The father of five children, who also has six grandchildren, is the most award-winning children's book author in his home country. His works, which are also known beyond the borders of the country, are considered icons of children's and youth literature.

From 1980 the journalist worked for the newspaper El Diario as a police reporter, music critic and humorous columnist. He also worked for the weekly Aquí and the magazines Guambia , Zeta and El Dedo . From 1982 to 1955 he was the Uruguay correspondent for the Reuters news agency . He can also look back on an activity as editor-in-chief of the magazine El sapo Ruperto . At least at the beginning of the 21st century he worked for the weekly newspaper Búsqueda . He published his first novel, Pescasueños , in 1986. He then turned to children's and young people's literature. In this field he is particularly known for the stories about the character of the toad Ruperto ( sapo Ruperto ). In 1990 his second novella appeared under the title La noche del dragón . Berocay is also active as a musician and composer. He was guitarist, composer and singer in the Uruguayan rock and blues group El conde de Saint Germain and is currently a member of the rock band La Conjura de los Necios .
