Royal Canberra Show

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Royal Canberra Show is an agricultural show organized by the Royal National Capital Agricultural Society (RNCAS) in the Australian capital of Canberra . Agriculture is in the foreground, but other elements have been added over the years, especially in the entertainment area.

The origin of the fair goes back to 1908, when the Ginninderra Farmers' Union held a small fair for the first time. In 1915 this took place for the last time after this farmers' association was dissolved. In 1924 and 1925 the Advance Hall and District Association organized two more fairs. The event from 1927 is considered the first "official" fair of the RNCAS. From 1931 it lasted two days.

In 1963 the fair took place for the last time in the old Hall Showground . In 1964, the new 40 hectare site was moved to, the Canberra Showgrounds . From 1972 the event lasted three days. In 1973 the Australian Sheep Shearer Championship took place in Canberra for the first time. In 1975 there were over 100,000 visitors for the first time. In 1978 Canada was invited as the first guest country. In 1979 the fair received the highest possible recognition with the designation "Royal". The number of visitors is now approaching the 200,000 mark.
