The Rua dos Combatentes da Grande Guerra is a street in the Portuguese coastal town of Figueira da Foz .

It runs as a rather small street straight ahead from Praça 8 de Maio up to the Convento de Santo António .

The street was opened in 1785 as Rua Nova da Praia , as part of the redesign and construction of the new building district of the expanding city by engineer Silva. Since then it has had the following other names:

  • Rua da Praça Nova
  • Rua Nova de Santo António
  • Rua Nova que vai da Praia para Santo António
  • Rua Nova que vai para a Praia da Reboleira
  • Vale de Canos
  • Rua Nova da Reboleira
  • Rua Nova
  • Rua Tenente Valadim

The current name means Street of the Fighters of the Great War and refers to the soldiers of the Portuguese Expeditionary Corps in World War I , which was only called the Great War due to Portuguese neutrality during World War II . It is still sometimes called Rua Nova today.
