René de Saint-Marceaux
Charles René de Saint-Marceaux (born September 23, 1845 in Reims , † April 23, 1915 in Paris) was a French sculptor . The Universal Post Memorial in Bern is one of his best-known works .
De Saint-Marceaux was a student of the sculptor François Jouffroy and was admitted to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1905 . Some of his numerous works are in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. However, since these are mainly larger sculptures, there are also some in the streets and squares of his native Reims. His most famous works include the statue of the Abbé Miroy (1873), the secret of the tomb-keeping genius (1879), champagne foam (1887) and the tomb of Alexandre Dumas the Younger .
Saint-Marceaux was also a medalist and collector of ancient Greek coins. In 1907 he was commissioned to create the plaque for the Société française des Amis de la Médaille .
