Rudolf I of Admont

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rudolf I von Admont (* before 1171, † after 1172) was originally a monk of the St. Lambrecht monastery; he was elected abbot of Admont Monastery , where he worked from 1171 to 1172.

From the more detailed circumstances of the abbot elections carried out after the death of Abbot Liutold , conclusions can be drawn about the severity of the Admonter religio : The convent could hardly decide between the two Admonter monks Isenrik, Abbot of Biburg, and Heinrich, Abbot of Millstatt. In the end Heinrich was chosen, but he did not accept it. In his place the prior Rudolf von St. Lambrecht was elected abbot. Although he accepted the election, he could not get used to the strict customs that prevailed in Admont and therefore resigned himself after only twelve weeks. The initially defeated Isenrik von Biburg was still abbot of Admont from 1178 to 1189.
