The ruins of the former Kerkberg church and its cemetery are a few kilometers away from the Altenböddeken settlement , in the Altenböddeken state forest near the Meinolfus chapel, in the urban area of the city of Büren in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Paderborn . The Detmold district government has designated the area as a ground monument .

history

The Christian church on Kerkberg was probably built in the 12th century or the first half of the 13th century . As a result of the settlement changes, the settlement and the church were given up. The building was restored in 1409 by the Augustinian canons of the nearby Böddeken monastery and used as an emergency church for twelve months. The church was also used around 1480 as a quarry to expand the Böddeken monastery.
