Coctaca ruins

The Coctaca ruins are a pre-Columbian site in northwest Argentina . They are located about ten kilometers northeast of the city of Humahuaca . With an area of ​​40 hectares, they are the largest archaeological site in northern Argentina.

The ruins are mostly terraces that were used for agricultural purposes. Some homes are also on the site. Until 1593 this place was cultivated by the local Kollas who are called Omaguacas or Humahuacas. The facility had a sophisticated irrigation system and generated income that exceeded its own needs.
